"MARQUE ONE" ~ Sprite Magazine

the quarterly magazine with items of interest for Austin-Healey Sprite Owners everywhere.

Ray English

Editor, Ray English, at the wheel of his Bugeye.

Ray published the first issue of his newsletter way back in August 1994, typing it on an electric typrwriter, then copying it on a photocopier in the first Sprite Room, a converted car port attached to his house. By the end of the first year, it was bi-monthly and was up to 10 pages, though still only black and white. The first edition with a colour cover came in the march/April issue of 1998, which featured 3 photos of John Sprinzel in Tasmania's 1998 Lactos Rally in which he drobe one of Tony Bennetto's Sprites. [Tony runs the Bugeye Barn located near Melbourne] From the first quarter of 2004 most covers have been in colour. Ray says:

"It has been fun, and still is, and while I enjoy it I will continue. I once set a goal to give it away in 2008, as it was the 50th anniversary of the Sprite, and seemed an appropriate time. However that was soon forgotten as I found more and more stuff to use. Then I thought number 100 might be a good time, so at the moment that is where I am at, this takes us up to 2nd quarter of 2017, by which time I will be 81, heading for 82, and hopefully still driving my Sprite.Time will tell".

One small example of the kind of article which appears in Marque One is the six pages of "Sprinzel Speaking ~ Sebring" which appeared in the First Quarter of 2014. Click here to read it in full.

Keep going Ray, there are many of us who wouldn't miss its arrival for the world. Recent copies run to 40 pages and Issue No.95 will be out very shortly - First Quarter 2016.
