Sliding Door Handles for the Sprite & Midget
These sliding exterior door handles were produced to assist owners of early Sprites and Midgets in gaining easier access to their car which initially only had interior handles reached by putting a hand through the side window. Made of Mazak these handles tended to deteriorate with small blisters appearing through the chrome plating. However they can be restored and re-chromed even though the finish may have a limited life. Now quite expensive if you can find a pair, the above drawings may assist in fitting them to a car. On occasions I have found the handles fitted slightly further forward than shown, this necessitating an extended lever. Some modern copies of the handles have been produced from time to time. The originals are inscribed: J(oseph) Fray Ltd of Birmingham, (mainly a club badge manufacturer) presumably the firm who made the castings.
